Take a walk through the Parkville Campus of Melbourne University on your day off.
From the Main Gate on Grattan St, you walk past the Gatekeeper's Cottage, which was a residence until 1996.
Through the centre of the campus, past South Lawn to the Old Quadrant. These buildings are the oldest part of the Campus, dating back to 1854.
The Camellia bushes in the Old Quad garden were originally planted in 1860 and provide a splash of colour against the grey stone walls.
Something old, something new... historic buildings adjoin brand new modern architecture, like the state of the art Melbourne School of Design, which looks down fondly on the lovely old Elisabeth Murdoch Building.
I read that when the former Old Pathology building was recently refurbished, all materials had to be carried up the stairs of the Heritage Listed 2 storey building, as it does not contain a lift.
Exit on Swanston Street to visit the Ian Potter Museum of Art, just around the corner. Download a map, or follow your own route, meandering in and around the hallowed halls.
