Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, Sherbrooke

Once the sprawling estate of Alfred Nicholas and his family home, the Art Deco mansion, Burnham Beeches, Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens is a wonderland of beauty and surprises, now separated from the mansion by a cyclone fence.

The big Beech trees, bluestone pillars and wrought iron gates with leaping deer detailed in each are a stunning welcome to the property.

The colours of the flowers are a vivid contrast to the reds and golds of the trees.

The walking trail leads down to the lake - a magical place of sights, sounds, colour, light and, quite possibly, fairy dust - all reflected in the tranquil waters.

Even the path is paved with gold - it must be magic! This time of year is great to visit, especially on a grey day - the colours seem to be more vibrant  without a bright sunny sky.
