Kangaroo Ground Memorial Tower

For spectacular views across Melbourne, you can't beat the Kangaroo Ground Memorial Tower. Built in 1926 on the 237 metre high Garden Hill, the highest hill in the area, as a memorial to those who died in World War 1.
7 Windmill Palms are planted around the tower, some over 60 years old. They represent the 6 states and 1 for the territories

In Summer, the tower is used for fire-spotting across the nearby ranges, from a watch house added in 1974.

The 53 steps of the sandstone tower lead to an Instagram worthy 360 degree view of the city, Mt Macedon, and Kinglake and Dandenong Ranges.

For those that prefer to stay closer to the ground, there's information boards on a viewing platform that also offer some pretty good viewsl. Picnic tables and facilities make this a good spot for an alfresco lunch in a beautiful setting.
