Arriving at Living Legends, we bought our entry tickets inside the historic Woodlands Homestead and had a look around the house first. The 19th century house is a great example of early timber kit homes brought over from Britain and built here.
Art, antique furniture and photographs give you a glimpse of life at the homestead in days gone by. The front rooms are filled with racing memorabilia, such as photos and videos of the famous Living Legends horses racing in their heyday.
Outside the homestead, the white post and rail paddocks hold some of Australia's most famous retired racehorses.
2007 Melbourne Cup winner Efficient was kicking up his heels and enjoying the sunshine.
Apache Cat had just been fed some carrots on the guided tour and blew a raspberry at me as I tried to take his photo.
The coffee lovers favourite horse, 2000 Melbourne Cup winner, Brew!
Better Loosen Up will celebrate his 30th birthday this year. It's great to see this former champion and all his friends, living a long restful life here at Living Legends.
The native gardens of the Homestead are also worth a look and there are bushwalks and cycling tracks in the Woodlands Historic Park. We spotted mobs of kangaroos and lots of birdlife on our walk. Great place for planespotting, too, as they come in to land right next to the park.
