Redwood Forest

Standing silently near the banks of a river, they reach towards the sky.

The ground underfoot is a soft carpet of pine needles. The smell of damp earth permeates my nostrils.

The forest is quiet, apart from a few bird calls. I am tiny in a land of giants.

Redwood Forest, East Warburton

A friend posted some pics on FB, showing an outing to a beautiful Redwood Forest. I was very surprised at the location - East Warburton.

What?
I grew up in Warburton and had never heard of this secret forest and the 1500 trees that were part of a trial plantation over 50 years ago.

After speaking to a few people that also grew up in the area, it seems I wasn't the only one unaware of these giants in our backyard.
The forest is located about 800m down Cement Creek Rd, on the right. A small patch of gravel is the carpark and you access the forest through a gap next to a closed gate.

The forest floor is covered in a thick carpet of pine needles and the sound of your footsteps is probably the only noise you'll hear.  A great place for a quiet walk.
