This walk starts at the Dight's Falls Capark and ends at Kane's Bridge, near Studley Park Boathouse. The return journey, on the other side of the Yarra River, is continued in the next post.
The falls themselves are part of an artificial weir, built in the 1840's, to provide water to the local flour mill, now CERES.
The Deep Rock Swimming Hole was the site of many gatherings in the early 1900's. In 1918, a crowd of around 70,000 gathered on this river banks here, to watch a world record dive of 62.7m, from the cliff on the other side.
The track is easy to walk or cycle, as it follows the river East.
Plenty of bird-spotting opportunities along the way, with cockatoos, rosellas and cormorants calling the river banks home.
Bring a a picnic lunch and enjoy the serenity of a peaceful oasis right on the city's edge.
At Kanes Bridge, you cross the river and begin the return journey to Dight's.
